Getting up to speed on SolidCAM2009:
1. Create machining tool paths directly on STL files - speeds up machining of scanned data files, without having to create advanced Solid/Surface models.
2. Faster solid verification - up to 8 times faster for complex 3D machining verification.
3. Calculations for simultaneous 5-axis machining are now up to 30% faster.
4. Smart application-specific sub-operations for simultaneous 5 axis machining - these new sub-operations automatically set many parameters appropriate for a specific type of machining like machining ports, turbine blades, impellers, electrodes, swarf and many more, making the simultaneous 5-axes work much more user-friendly.
5. New sim. 5-axes operations - drill 5-axes and conversion of 3-axes toolpath to 5-axes.
6. Powerful advanced transformation capabilities to combine multiple rotations, translations and mirrors on an operation in a single command.
7. Advanced user-controlled sorting of drilling points and all 2D geometries in 2.5D Milling.
8. Automatic gouge-checking against target solid model during 2.5D Mill operations calculations.
9. Enhancements to the High-Speed-Machining (HSM) module including smart finish of prismatic parts, definition of pre-drill points for Roughing and Scallop definition.
10. New powerful tool-path editor and simulator to enable interactive editing of 3D toolpath data.
11. Adding sub-operations to the High-Speed-Surface machining (HSS) module.
12. Enhancement to the Mill-Turn module including updating stock material from milling to turning.
13. Enhanced Tool-table definition including STL-definition of each tool, to be used in verification, and definition of spin/feed tables for tools.
14. Integration with Driveworks, the Design automation add-on for SolidWorks, enabling the automation of machining of families of parts.
Emil Somekh, managing director of SolidCAM, stated, “SolidCAM Professor video tutorials have been the perfect complement to SolidCAM. Whereas SolidCAM lets our customers get the most power, speed and efficiency for CNC programming their SolidWorks parts, SolidCAM Professor let them get the most from our software. It’s like having a CAM expert right over your shoulder anytime you need it. SolidCAM professor gets our users up to speed faster; SolidCAM2009 just gives them more speed. SolidCAM2009 will be released at end of Q1, 2009.”
Mark Driscoll, Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp.’s OEM Business Development Manager says “Amid intensifying global competition, machine shops are searching for ways to automate processes, compress delivery times, and reduce costs. In order to achieve these goals, they are looking for additional technology enhancements to leverage their limited resources. Integrated CAM solutions like SolidCAM eliminate the inefficiencies of bouncing design models back and forth between separate CAD and CAM programs for part prototyping and revisions.”
About SolidCAMFounded in 1984 by its Managing Director Dr. Emil Somekh, SolidCAM provides manufacturing customers a full suite of CAM software modules for 2.5D and 3D milling, high speed machining, multi-sided indexial 4/5 axes milling, simultaneous 5 axes milling, turning, turn-mills up to 5-axes and WireEDM. SolidCAM is the Gold-Certified integrated CAM engine running directly inside SolidWorks® software and provides seamless, single-window integration and full associativity with SolidWorks software including parts, assemblies and configurations. Today, SolidCAM has more than 13,500 seats installed in industry and education. SolidCAM is sold by a worldwide reseller network in 46 countries. SolidCAM has been on a very rapid growth path since it implemented the SolidWorks integration strategy. In the CIMdata NC Software Market Assessment Report V17, CIMdata named SolidCAM as the consistent growth leader in CAM worldwide over the last 5 years, with annual growth rates in the 30% range.
