CIMdata named SolidCAM as the worldwide most rapidly-growing CAM software vendor in 2005 with a growth rate of +40% over 2004. By being totally integrated in the leading 3D CAD mainstream system SolidWorks, SolidCAM provides all the necessary operations for the manufacturing of a part inside SolidWorks. With its single-window integration in SolidWorks, all the SolidCAM machining operations are defined, calculated and verified in the SolidWorks environment. All geometries used for machining are fully associative with the SolidWorks design model. When the geometry of a part or the mold design is modified, SolidCAM enables the user to automatically synchronize all machining operations with the updated geometry. Since no data translation is necessary, not only precious time is saved and risky errors within the production process are minimized, but also the communication between designers and NC programmers is greatly improved.
In addition to the seamless integration, Mr. Christman adds “SolidCAM also provides a broad spectrum of CAM capabilities including support for all aspects of hole making, 2 ½-axis through simultaneous 5-axis milling, high-speed milling, indexed “tombstone” machining, basic turning, synchronized mill turning, and EDM.” The upcoming version SolidCAM2007 R11 will provide NC programmers with a new module for “High Speed Machining” (HSM), especially for the manufacturing of complex molds, tools and dies. Alan Christman commented further “Moldmakers often have to do mold design and NC programming in one process chain, so that for them single window integration is an important factor to reduce the lead time of the molds”.
